This is a paper referred to be Euler in his De Sono , in which the frequency of a musical string is derived in several ways. Initially, the fundamental mode of vibration of a number of point masses on a string is investigated. The work is in agreement with that of Brook Taylor a little earlier. In this work Bernoulli used the new mathematical methods of differentiation and integration to solve a fundamental problem in physics - with considerable ingenuity and insight.
